Pleasant Valley got its start in Holland in the early 1950’s. It was there that the owners met, married, and started their life together in America.

Arie and Toni Kroeze started Pleasant Valley in 1952 in Iowa City, Iowa. The early days were filled with working long days at a local greenhouse and then working after hours in private gardens and yards around the city. These small gardening and landscape jobs were supplemented with the purchase of an apple orchard in 1952. In 1962, a garden center grew out of a garage on the corner of Highway 6 and Gilbert Street and we have been growing ever since!

The owner, Cindy Shaw, is a licensed esthetician and has been working in the beauty industry since 1995 when she became an Independent Mary Kay Beauty Consultant.. Cindy earned a BS in Animal Science from the University of Missouri-Columbia in 1992 and completed the esthetics program at The Salon Professional Academy in Iowa City in 2010.  She has the distinction of being certified with the "Dermalogica Expert Status" by the International Dermal Institute after completing nearly 100 hours of postgraduate education.  Cindy is currently the only esthetician in the Iowa City area that is certified by Dermalogica to perform the BioActive Peel and the IonActive Professional Treatments.  Lash Savvy is the company that trained and certified Cindy to apply individual eyelash extensions in 2015.
