Goodwill Industries - Coralville, Iowa City, Cedar Rapids

GoodwillGoodwill was founded in 1902 in Boston by Rev. Edgar J. Helms, a Methodist minister and early social innovator. Helms collected used household goods and clothing in wealthier areas of the city, then trained and hired those who were poor to mend and repair the used goods. The goods were then resold or were given to the people who repaired them. The system worked, and the Goodwill philosophy of “Not Charity, but a Chance” was born.

Iowa Valley Habitat For Humanity Restore - Iowa City

Habitat RestoreThe ReStore is a 10,000 square foot treasure chest filled with new and used building and housing materials. Anyone, regardless of income, can purchase materials (anything from paint and nails to cabinets, applianes and furniture) all at affordable prices. Maybe someone else in the Iowa City area has donated just what you need to complete the project you’re working on now. All you need to do is come in and take a look around.

With this service, our community benefits in several ways. One, ReStore’s proceeds support Iowa Valley Habitat for Humanity. Two, with a little carpentry skill, everyone can have a home or business to admire. And three, our services essentially recycle materials that might have otherwise been sent to our local landfill.
