Ranking flavored whiskeys from worst to 'first' - Bachelor on the Cheap

Flavored WhiskeysBy Mike Thayer

Blended and flavored whiskeys are red hot right now, consumer demand for brown spirits continues to rise with American Whiskey in particular seeing some phenomenal sales growth.

Regular readers know that I am a fan of flavored whiskey, I've always got a bottle of something in my freezer for a chilled shot or flavored specialty in the liquor cabinet to enjoy on the rocks.

There is a HUGE variety of flavored whiskeys out there to choose from ranging from what arguably started the trend - honey, to perhaps the current popular choice of cinnamon.

I've sampled quite a few and by no means have I covered them all, but here's a pretty comprehensive list of what in my opinion are what NOT to try and what to buy.

So here's my list of worst to 'first', OK, best to be grammatically correct, starting off with the worst....

Drink Review: Jim Beam Peach Whiskey - Bachelor on the Cheap

By Mike Thayer

Blended and flavored whiskeys are red hot right now, consumer demand for brown spirits continues to rise with American Whiskey in particular seeing some phenomenal sales growth.

Regular readers know that I am a fan of flavored whiskey, I've always got a bottle of something in my freezer for a chilled shot or flavored specialty in the liquor cabinet to enjoy on the rocks.  My favorite in all this tasting fun so far, has been Yukon Jack Jacapple.

20190607_104051-1-1Today's tasting:  Jim Beam Peach Whiskey

I've sampled Jim Beam Apple, Jim Beam Red Stag, Jim Beam Honey and Jim Beam Maple.  Of the Jim Beam lot, my favorite so far has been the apple, with the others not really being repeat buys.

The description from the bottle:   Jim Beam Peach contains all the pride of the Beam family's 220-year history with a refreshing take on family tradition.  Our distillers have infused rich, flavorful peach liqueur with fine Kentucky straight bourbon whiskey.  The perfect mix of peach and bourbon with hints of oak.  Enjoy straight, or mix with soda or tea.

So how good is it you ask?

Bachelor on the Cheap Challenge: $50 to eat for a week, Day 3, breakfast

Mike Thayer 2016 (2) By Mike Thayer

Can you eat for a week on just $50?

Breaking it down by the day, that's about $7.14 per day or $2.38 per meal.

20170522_081626It's Day 3 already!  Here's breakfast:  I enjoyed some hash browns with a couple of eggs over easy, a simple breakfast but a satisfying one.  And like the meal itself, the preparation was simple, a little canola oil to fry things up with and some salt and pepper.  It only took me about 10 minutes to prepare.  The hash browns I bought for $1 at Dollar Tree and the eggs were purchased at Aldi - 79 cents a dozen.   This meal cost me about $1.25 to prepare and that included my morning coffee.  TIP:  Have you ever shopped at an Aldi?

Meal totals for the day:

Breakfast:  $1.25

Cumulative total for the Challenge:

Day 1:  $7.25
Day 2:  $6.90
Day 3:  $1.25 (breakfast)

Grand Total:  $15.40 so far and under budget!  Holding off on the Ramen.....  for now....

$50 to eat for a week, are you up for the challenge?

About Us

Galassi Pasta SauceAfter years of having what we call "Soul Food Sunday" where we spend days planning and hours cooking for family, friends and neighbors, Galassi Foods was started in 2009 by our family.

People that would enjoy our cooking continued to comment on how we needed to bottle the recipes and sell them for everybody to enjoy. And that is how it all started, from our kitchen to yours! From our family to yours!

We took the favorite recipes and started to sell them. We started at local farmers markets and after a great response we started selling in grocery stores. Galassi Foods still does countless farmers markets and demos in grocery stores with all of our products. We take pride in listening to all of our customers and have grown with the needs and requests.

We now offer a full line of pasta sauces which includes four varieties. It is so much fun, listening to our customers, friends and family and creating new products for everyone to enjoy. And nothing beats the response that we hear from everyone when they taste our great products. It makes all the work worth while!

Look for us in your local grocery store and if we are not there, then print the request form and ask for these amazing products.
