By the end of September, Scooter’s Coffee anticipates its stores will have served more than 1 million cups of free fresh-brewed coffee since September 1.

Customers have been flocking to Scooter’s Coffee drive-thru locations throughout September to sip and savor fresh-brewed hot coffee for free.

Stop by your local Scooter’s Coffee on National Coffee Day or any remaining day in September for a FREE brewed coffee of any size. The offer is valid one cup per person, per visit, while supplies last.

The coffee won’t stop flowing after the month ends. Scooter’s Coffee plans to extend the coffee love beyond September. Beginning October 1, customers can order any size fresh-brewed coffee for just $1.

“Making our fresh-brewed coffee available going forward for $1 on our menu is our way of extending an everyday great value while recognizing the loyalty and support of our amazing customers,” said Thornton.

Iowa City again receives national Distinguished Budget Presentation Award


Transit detours announced due to Northside Oktoberfest

IOWA CITY -- On Saturday, Sept. 23, 2023, the 7-North Dodge and 11-Rochester routes will detour inbound using Gilbert Street due to road closures on Market Street for Northside Octoberfest.

The detour will be in place all day and normal service to both routes will resume on Monday, Sept. 25. Four bus stops will be closed for the day: stop 7206, stop 8218, stop 7454, and stop 7207.

Bus stops 7443 and stop 7441 may also be closed if nearby road construction is not completed before Sept. 23. Signs will be posted on any stop not in service.


Mayor Bruce Teague declares September as "Freedom to Read Month"

 

IOWA CITY -- Mayor Bruce Teague has issued a proclamation recognizing September as "Freedom to Read Month," encouraging all residents to celebrate their intellectual freedom. The proclamation urges everyone to uphold their freedom to read by obtaining a library card and visiting the Iowa City Public Library and the ICPL Bookmobile.

This proclamation comes ahead of the annual Intellectual Freedom Festival, which runs from Sept. 21 to Oct. 10, celebrating everyone's right to freedom of thought and expression.

The proclamation was presented by the Iowa City Public Library and the Office of Equity and Human Rights.

City Declares September as "Freedom to Read Month"

 


Free Document Shredding on September 23 in Coralville

Clean out your filing cabinet, help prevent identity theft, and shred and recycle documents at Coralville’s free document shredding event on Saturday, September 23, 2023, from 8:00 am until 12:00 pm. Coralville residents can bring up to two cardboard boxes of personal papers to the Coralville Community Aquatic Center parking lot, 1513 7th Street, to be securely shredded on site. This event will be held rain or shine.

Boxes of papers must be able to be reasonably lifted by one person. Limit two boxes per household. The shredding machines will process all fasteners, so there is no need to remove them. Any of the following can be put into the security containers with paper:

  • Any color or type of paper
  • Paper clips
  • Staples
  • Rubber bands
  • Labels
  • File tabs

All shredded material is baled and recycled to help protect the environment. This event is sponsored by the City of Coralville. For more information, please call 319.248.1740.


Iowa City Fire Department to use Hickory Hill Park for EMS training; park to remain open

The Iowa City Fire Department will conduct emergency medical service training at Hickory Hill Park from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 26, through Thursday, Sept. 28, 2023. The park will remain open at that time and signs will be posted.

ICFD will stage their equipment at the Bloomington Street entrance of the park and conduct training within the park.


Coralville Offers Extra Trash Cart Collection with Cart à la Carte

Cart a la CarteCity of Coralville trash customers will get their trash carts emptied one additional time this fall, free of charge. 

Place any trash or smaller items in your cart on the day designated, and set your trash cart at the curb. The free trash cart collection dates are:

  • Friday, September 22, 2023: For homes with regular trash collection on Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday
  • Monday, September 25, 2023: For homes with regular trash collection on Thursday

This extra one-time collection is to empty trash carts only, and is in addition to the regular trash collection for that week. You will still have trash, recycling, and yard waste collection on your regular day. 

Only one additional tagged bag, placed on top of the closed lid of the cart, is allowed and will be picked up. Tagged bags placed on the ground will not be picked up and require a special appointment.

This extra trash cart collection is in addition to Mayor's Clean Up Week, which will be October 2-6, 2023. For more information, please call the Coralville Streets and Solid Waste Department at 319.248.1740.
