At 1:30 a.m. on Thursday, the Iowa City Fire Department responded to a report of a stove fire at 2023 Taylor Drive. The first fire unit arrived in approximately 3 minutes and reported flames showing in the kitchen area of the house. Fire crews entered the structure and brought the fire under control within 14 minutes.
Sixteen fire personnel responded on the initial alarm, followed by a callback of all Iowa City firefighters. Outside agency support and assistance was provided by the Iowa City Police Department, Johnson County Ambulance Service, Johnson County Joint Communications Center and the Red Cross.
No civilian or firefighter injuries were reported. The fire caused damage to the first-floor kitchen area of the structure and smoke damage throughout. Damage to the home is estimated to be $25,000. The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the ICFD Fire Marshal.
