Parks and Recreation Department to hold activities at Greene Square in July

CEDAR RAPIDS, IA – To celebrate National Park and Recreation Month, the Cedar Rapids Parks and Recreation Department will provide kids, family and adult activities at Greene Square throughout the month of July. The theme for the activities is “Just be a Kid” with a focus on recreating outdoor summer fun enjoyed during childhood.

Each Tuesday morning in July, children’s activities will be held on the lawn across from the Cedar Rapids Public Library. Activities will include:

July 10     Library Scavenger Hunt from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

July 17     Animals from Old MacDonald’s Farm from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

July 24     Outdoor and painted games on the lawn, including hopscotch, tic tac toe and more, with prizes from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

July 31     Old fashioned recess games led by the staff from Ushers Ferry Historic Village from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Adult and family activities will be held on Thursdays in the park. These activities include:

July 12     Music and games for families led by DJ Commando including playground games such as Red Light/Green Light and Simon Says. Food trucks from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.

July 19     Quidditch Basics led by the University of Iowa Quidditch Club from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. and POUND class from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. Food truck from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.

July 26     Walking tours from the History Museum at 6:15 P.M. Meet on the patio. $3.00 per person. POUND class from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m.

With the exception of the walking tours, all activities are free to the public and do not require advance registration. Event sponsorship by the Linn Area Community Credit Union.
