Iowa-Nebraska key play, key stat

Key play

In a 14-14 game, true freshman Ihmir Smith-Marsette took the opening kickoff the third quarter and ran 74 yards with it, positioning Iowa for a 5-play, 22-yard scoring drive that ended with a 1-yard carry by Akrum Wadley, which moved the Hawkeyes ahead to stay. The return was the longest of the season Iowa, topping the previous best of 53 Smith-Marsette had on a return last week against Purdue.

Key stat

The Hawkeyes ran the ball with authority against a porous Nebraska defense, averaging 6.7 yards any time Iowa opted to rush the football. The Hawkeyes did that 47 times against the Cornhuskers, piling up a season-high 313 rushing yards. Four Iowa backs combined to rush for six touchdowns, an effort led by Akrum Wadley runs of 20, 1 and 29 yards.
