The City will host two informational meetings to review design advancement and construction phasing for the Pedestrian Mall Improvements Project.
The public open house will take place from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., on Thursday, Oct. 26, 2017, at the Sheraton Hotel, 210 S. Dubuque St. A presentation will begin at 5:30 p.m., with a short question and answer session to follow. A meeting for downtown businesses and property owners will happen prior to the public open house, and will run from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m., same place, same format.
These community meetings follow a July open house where the public was invited to view the designs for the project.
The Pedestrian Mall Improvements Project is part of the larger Downtown and Pedestrian Mall Streetscape Plan. The goal of the work is to improve accessibility, infrastructure and the look and feel of the area. Upgrades will include new amenities like lighting, planting and accents that celebrate Iowa City’s uniqueness and cultural footprint in the area.
The project is currently in the design stage and construction is anticipated to begin in 2018.
