Cubs not dead, planning return trip to Cleveland for Game 6 of World Series

The Cubs, clobbered 7-2 by the Cleveland Indians, now trail 3-1 in the World Series, leaving Cubs’ fans on the brink of uttering that old refrain:

“Wait ‘til Next Year.’’

The Indians, who have turned this postseason into their own pitching showcase, need just one more victory, and for the first time since 1948, they are World Series champions.

One more defeat, the Cubs will go home for the 108th consecutive winter without a World Series trophy.

Cleveland Indians blank Chicago Cubs, ruin Game 3 Wrigley homecoming - SweetSpot- ESPN

CHICAGO -- Not even the wind can defeat great pitching, not even at Wrigley Field. Starter Josh Tomlin and three relievers combined to shut out the Chicago Cubs 1-0 as the Cleveland Indians grabbed a 2-1 lead in the World Series with their fifth shutout in 11 postseason games and their second in the World Series.

Pinch hitter Coco Crisp broke up a scoreless tie with an RBI single in the seventh. Despite a stiff wind blowing out to left-center, the pitchers for both sides controlled the game from start to finish on an unusually warm late October evening in Chicago.

Trump reinvigorated by FBI Clinton probe - CNNPolitics.com

Cedar Rapids, Iowa (CNN) The FBI's decision to review new emails related to Hillary Clinton's use of a private email server is reinvigorating Donald Trump's faith in the US government and political system -- and in his own campaign.

"What happened today, starting with the FBI, maybe the system will become a little less rigged. Beautiful," the Republican nominee, who has repeatedly questioned what he deems a "rigged system" against him, said Friday night. It was the third and final rally of a day he argued has breathed new life into his struggling campaign.

He argued his campaign is "really moving" in light of what he termed a "disaster" for Clinton's campaign and then the billionaire showman even capped off the outdoors rally on a riverbank here with a flashy fireworks display.

Chicago Cubs' Kyle Schwarber will not be in lineup for Game 3 - UPI.com

World Series hero Kyle Schwarber won't be in Chicago's starting lineup when the Cubs host the Cleveland Indians in Game 3 on Friday.

Doctors determined that Schwarber's surgically repaired left knee isn't yet ready for outfield duty, so the slugger, who is 3-for-7 with two walks, will be limited to pinch-hitting duty in the three games slated for Chicago's Wrigley Field.

The series is tied at one game apiece.

Schwarber was surprisingly cleared to play in the World Series six-plus months after major knee injury. He served as the designated hitter in the two games in Cleveland and lobbied to play in the field in Chicago.

Cubs president Theo Epstein said the team denied Schwarber's request because it wasn't in his best long-term interests.

Schwarber said he was disappointed but understands the decision.

Old vs. New: Bill Snyder, K-State visit Iowa State

AMES, Iowa (AP) -- The Big 12's oldest coach is about to meet the youngest.

Kansas State's Bill Snyder, 78, became just the seventh coach in FBS history to coach at least 300 games at one school earlier this season - and a win Saturday at Iowa State (1-6, 0-4) would give him 198 career victories, good for 25th all time.

Iowa State's Matt Campbell, at 36 the youngest Power Five coach in the country, just finished his seventh game with the Cyclones.

Campbell has only come out on top once, and the matchup against the Wildcats (4-3, 2-2) is one of the few games left that Iowa State has a reasonable chance of winning.

''I don't care what profession you're in, especially in the world of college football. It's hard to sustain success, and he's had this unique ability to do it,'' Campbell said of Snyder. ''It's a great matchup for our team (in terms of), where are we in our own culture? Because, to me, it says a lot each other's culture right now.''

Despite its dismal record, Iowa State has led at halftime in three of its four Big 12 games and is coming off a bye.
