Local Housing Conference to Focus on Affordable Housing Opportunities

Presenters Will Share Successes from Other Communities

Coralville, Iowa - Anyone interested in exploring issues and opportunities around developing and sustaining safe, decent, accessible and affordable housing throughout Johnson County is encouraged to join members of the Johnson County Affordable Homes Coalition (JCAHC) at an upcoming local housing conference.  The event - Affordable Housing: A Win/Win for All  - will be held on Friday, June 17 from 8:00 AM to 3:30 PM at the Radisson Hotel & Conference Center, 1220 First Avenue in Coralville.  Community members, housing advocates, faith communities, developers & builders, service organizations, and city & county leaders & staff are all encouraged to participate.

The conference’s morning keynote address will feature Stephanie Ettinger De Cuba, Research & Policy Director with Children’s Health Watch at Boston Medical Center.  Her presentation is “Housing, Health and Healthy Communities:  Why a Stable, Decent Home is Like a Vaccine”.  The luncheon speaker will be Taz George, Research Analyst with the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago.  He will be sharing current statistics and information about housing and affordability in Johnson County.

Several breakout sessions on various topics will round out the day.  Conference attendees can choose between sessions on: Employer-Assisted & Workforce Housing; Creating Opportunities for Developers; Neighborhood Revitalization Partnerships; Connecting Affordable Housing & Health Services; the Role of Financial Institutions; and Making Inclusionary Housing Work over the Long Term.

Pre-registration is requested.
