Lawmakers strike deal on school spending

The Iowa House and Senate have struck a deal on education spending for the upcoming school year, and a joint conference committee is expected to vote on the measure Tuesday, two key lawmakers confirmed.

Sen. Tod Bowman, D-Maquoketa, and Rep. Ron Jorgensen, R-Sioux City,  co-chairmen of the conference committee, acknowledged Monday they have reached an agreement for the 2016-17 academic year. But both said said no details will be released until it can be reviewed with members of their respective majority party caucuses.
