ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (AP) -- There's nothing wrong with Tom Brady and the New England Patriots that a game against their familiar AFC East patsies - the Buffalo Bills - can't fix.

Not even after Brady and Co. spotted them a 14-point, third-quarter lead.

Yankees beat Blue Jays 9-6, maintain share of lead - Yahoo! Sports

TORONTO (AP) -- After holding onto the AL East lead for more than 3½ months, the Yankees appeared set to fall out of first place on Sunday. Then they rallied from a four-run deficit and headed home still tied with Baltimore.

"Tonight was a season-defining game for us," New York's Nick Swisher said after a 9-6 win at the Toronto Blue Jays. "We could have gone down big like that and just packed it in, but that's not this team's M.O. That's not how we approach it."

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Plans to use an array of powerful air cannons in an undersea seismic study near a Central California nuclear power plant have federal and state officials juggling concerns over marine life with public safety.

Pacific Gas & Electric Co. wants to use big air guns to emit strong sound waves into a large, near-shore area that includes parts of marine reserves to make three-dimensional maps of fault zones, some of which were discovered in 2008, near its Diablo Canyon nuclear power plant.

Ryan rejects need for breakthrough moment - Yahoo! News

WASHINGTON (AP) — Mitt Romney's running mate shot down the need for a breakthrough in the first presidential debate Wednesday, trying to allay Republican concerns that the race is slipping away with five weeks to go and momentum on President Barack Obama's side.

Vice presidential nominee Paul Ryan, working to keep debate expectations for Romney in check, praised Obama's debating skills and called the Democratic incumbent "a very gifted speaker" with years of experience on the national stage. He played down signs that Obama is gaining distance in the most competitive states. Polls are tight, Ryan said, and will stay that way until the election Nov. 6.
